Sandwich was founded in 1639. It is the oldest town on Cape Cod and one of the oldest towns in the United States. It was settled by European immigrants about 150 years before the American Revolution.

Parking Information
Stickers : Resident stickers are $30, non-resident stickers $115 (excluding Sandy Neck, Peters Pond and Snake Pond), at the town hall, 145 Main St., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays. Permit for Ryder Conservation Area only is $40.
Parking : Daily parking $10 (excludingSandy Neck, Peters Pond and Snake Pond). The daily parking fee is $7 at Scusset Beach. Four-wheel drive permits are available through the Gatehouse at Sandy Neck Beach, (508) 362-8300, or through the Barnstable Department of Natural Resources (508) 790-6272.

Places of Interest
- Dexter Grist Mill: A 17th century grist mill still in use. Built in 1654 on
Shawme Pond at the town center, the Mill offers tours and sells fresh ground corn. Open daily 10-4 in summer, with limited hours in Sept-Oct. Admission $1.50 Adults and $.75 Children.

- Fish Hatchery: Half a million fish are raised here for stocking of state ponds. Admission is free. Open year-round, 9-3 daily. Route 6A - Phone: 508-888-0008
- Heritage Museums & Gardens: Open year-round. Winter Hours: Open Wedesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Open Monday holidays and school vacation week) May 1 - October 31, open seven days a week 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday until 8 p.m. One hundred acres of gardens and trails with more than 1,000 varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers. J. K. Lilly III Antique Automobile Museum displays antique and classic cars. American History Museum featuring the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame opens May 4. Art Museum with 1912 antique carousel, folk art, and "Currier & Ives: Images of New England until March 16. Opening April 12 through November 2, 2003 Ralph Cahoon's Cape Cod. An 1800 windmill is also located on the grounds. Programs for adults and children and museum gift shops. Admission charged. Group rates available.

- Hoxie House: The oldest house on Cape Cod was built in 1675 for Reverend John Smith, his wife Susanna and their 13 children. Purchased by the town in 1950, the house was restored and over a period of time furniture was added. Open June-mid October, admission $1.50 adults, $.75 children.

- Sandwich Boardwalk: The Sandwich Boardwalk crosses Mill Creek and beautiful marshes, leading to a lovely public beach on Cape Cod Bay. Stretching over 1000 feet in length, the original wooden walkway was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Bob in 1991. Residents and supporters rebuilt the Boardwalk by selling over 1700 personalized planks. It remains one of Sandwich's unique treasures, offering scenic views from the Cape Cod Canal to Scorton Creek. To reach the Boardwalk, follow Route 6A to Jarves Street. The Boardwalk is located at the end of Jarves and Harbor Streets, ample parking available.
- Sandwich Glass Museum: Since 1907, the Museum has delighted visitors with sparkling exhibits that describe the transformation of a small farming community into one of the world's most respected manufacturers of 19th century glass.
