Orleans was founded in 1797. During the early 1800's the main industries were farming, fishing, whaling and salt making. The windmills that are still on the Cape are evidence from the saltworks days. They were used to pump salt water into vaults for evaporation.

Parking Information
Stickers : Resident stickers are free. Fees for renters in Orleans are $40/ week, $80/ two weeks, $135/ season from June 19 to Labor Day.
Non-resident stickers are $135/ season, with a one-week $40 sticker available. Daily parking fee is $10, good the same day at Nauset and Skaket Beaches. Stickers available by mail or at the former American Legion Hall, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Oversand seasonal beach stickers are $40 for residents and taxpayers; $160 for nonresidents, and $210 for self-contained vehicle.

Nauset Beach: Nauset is one the best beaches on the East Coast.
A day at Nauset Beach can make anyone a Cape Codder. Beautiful ocean views, and soft sand keep visitors returning to this shoreline every year. Traveling east, take a right on Main Street off Route 28 and follow the signs.

Skaket Beach: Calm waters highlight Skaket Beach as the gentle side of Orleans facing Cape Cod Bay. The beach is long and is great for extended walks during low tide. Located at the end of Rock Harbor Road.

Academy Playhouse: Originally a town hall in 1873, this place is now the Academy of Performing Arts theater. Musicals and comedies are performed all through the year. Located on Main Street in East Orleans.

Eldridge Park: This park is an image of how baseball used to be with its green grass, and red clay diamond. Eldridge Park is one of the best amateur baseball parks in the world. Many Major League players once played here. Located on Route 28.

French Cable Museum: From just before the turn of the century until 1940 this place was used as a cable outpost transmitting international news to France. Now a museum, it displays the same antique equipment. Located on Cove Road off Route 28.
