Eastham was first founded by the Pilgrims in 1644. The town was originally named Nawsett and was incorporated in June of 1651. First Encounter Beach is the location where Myles Standish met with the Nauset Indians in 1620. The Pilgrims decided to go on their way and ended up in Plymouth.

Places of Interest
- Coast Guard Beach Station: This station sits overlooking the cliffs and s
horeline from the base of Coast Guard Beach. Built in 1905, it was moved back to the parking lot in 1936 due to dune erosion. The beach is filled with tourists during the summer. Located at the end of Doane Road off Route 6.
- Nauset Light: This lighthouse stands 114 feet above the Atlantic. Its surrounded with natural dunes and cliffs and the beach is popular for sunbathing and swimming in the summer. Located at the end of Cable Rd. off Route 6.
- Fort Hill: An exciting hike for visitors to the area. The path and boardwalk are 1 ½ miles long. The trail goes through the most scenic section through salt marshes full of wildlife. Located on Fort Hill Road off Route 6.
- Salt Pond Visitor Center: The entrance to the Cape Cod National Seashore. Located right on Route 6 across from the Eastham Historical Society Museum.
