Founded March 5, 1638, Barnstable was first settled as an agricultural community by the Reverends Hull and Lothrop from the North Shore. For many generations it remained this way until seafaring citizens settled in and industry became sea-oriented.
The village of Hyannis today is the hub of Cape Cod. Having the everyday needs for the year-rounder with a variety of activities for summer tourists, everyone goes to Hyannis at one time or another.
